
Based on the majoritarian electoral system, the candidate who receives more than 40% of the actual votes of the electorate participating in the elections will be considered elected to the Assembly.
If two candidates have received an equal number of votes, the candidate who was previously registered with the relevant district election commission will be considered elected - this entry was added to the draft amendments to the Electoral Code, which will be considered by the Parliament with II reading at the plenary session.
The Chairman of the Education and Science Committee, Shalva Papuashvili noted that the issue of introducing a threshold for single-mandate MPs during the local self-government elections had been raised by opposition colleagues from the very beginning.
"A 40% threshold was proposed. We had a discussion about it in the working group today and we shared this approach”, - Sh. Papuashvili remarked.
