
The Chair of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee, Mikheil Kavelashvili, met with representatives of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) - WADA’s Chief Compliance Manager, Emiliano Simonelli, and Manager for Government and NADO Relations, Olympia Karavasili to discuss the harmonization of Georgian national legislation with the World Anti-Doping Code.
As was noted, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs will prepare a draft of amendments to the Law on Sports, which will be approved by the Parliament by September this year.
Mikheil Kavelashvili expressed commitment for the involvement of the Committee in the process of preparing the legislative changes and spoke about the importance of implementing the recommendations issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The parties discussed the anti-doping policy agenda and the implementation of international agreements governing doping-related issues.
Prior to today’s visit, the WADA expert group visited Georgia in October 2021.
During the visit, the group assessed the activities of the Georgian Anti-Doping Agency and some aspects of state policy, setting out some recommendations for the Georgian side and deadlines for their implementation.
