The Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee’s Thematic Inquiry Group held a sitting on “Studying the Civic Engagement in Municipal Activity”.
Today, the Group met with NGOs and field experts to hear their positions and accept their will for participation.
The verbal hearing allows the Group members and parties concerned to exchange their positions and discuss the recommendations. “Civic Engagement in the municipal activity is a significant challenge and we strive to at a maximal extent improve the mechanisms allowing the citizens to participate in the solution of the local problems, monitor various projects and participate in the improvement of their lives”, - the Head of the Group, Eka Sepashvili stated.
The invitees expressed their positions and recommendations.
“Self-government is a branch being closest to the population and best reflecting their attitudes and needs. Hence, civic engagement in a municipal activity is very important. The Thematic Group aims at studying the current situation and further steps to further improve the engagement”, - the Chair of the Committee, Sozar Subari stated.
The recommendations issued on the basis of the survey shall be initiated on a legal level to facilitate the development of the self-government of European type and oriented to the citizens.
