Nino Burjanadze, Acting President of Georgia, Met Leaders of the Energy Sector

Nino Burjanadze, the Acting President of Georgia, met the heads of different organizations in the Energy Sector.  Directors of the Energy Wholesale Market, United Distribution Company, State Electrical Power System, AES Telasi provided Nino Burjanadze with information on the situation created in the field of energy.

 

The heads of these organizations paid special emphasis on Energy safety, indebtedness, payments done by the budgetary organizations, protection of the property of the electrical power companies and their substations.

 

At the meeting the Director General of the State Electrical Power System, Brian Cronley, discussed the situation really unfolding in the energy sector and informed Nino Burjanadze on the emergency actions to be executed by the government to maintain more or less stable condition in energy supply. According to the energy sector specialists it is necessary to develop the legislation in this sphere. The agenda of the day also covered the question of fund-raising for unstopped implementation of the energy import.

 

Nino Burjanadze thanked the heads of the energy companies for comparatively good results in providing the population with energy, though it does not refer to regions. This question should be regulated in all possible ways furthermore the Easter and the  New Year holidays are soon to come, she declared and promised the representatives of the energy sphere  possible assistance within her competence.

 

The Acting president of Georgia will issue special commissions to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the local bodies of government for ensuring the smooth work of the energy system and for preventing the unpermitted occupation of substations.

 

Under the commission of Nino Burjanadze, the heads of the energy sector, together with the Minister of Finances, will conduct a meeting to work out a realistic plan for providing the country with energy supply.

 

" I am sure, our population in such a case will be able to understand the unfolding situation, though everything should be done the payer to get the energy without obstacles, nobody is to have advantages. In case of non-payment of the applied energy, even the big companies are to be disconnected without any exceptions.”-declared the Acting President at the end of the meeting.
