Autumn Session to be open on September 6

The autumn session will open on September 6 as the Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili announced at the Bureau.


“Tomorrow, we open the autumn session and I would like to wish you all successful Parliamentary activity. As you know, the session is going to be very busy, our agenda includes 12 recommendations and the adoption of respective bills. I wish you all a successful session and hope for a constructive environment in the Parliament. I cherish the idea that when we close the session and review our autumn activities, we all will be satisfied with tangible outcomes”, - he addressed his colleagues.


According to him, the current week will be busy with the hearing of the reports:

  • September 6 – after the political statements and the draft laws, the Parliament will hear the budget implementation report for 2021;
  • September 7 – expedited consideration of the Bills; consideration of the complex package on the accession to the SEPA; the annual report by the Communication Commission for 2020, and the annual report by the Public Broadcaster for 2021;
  • September 8 – annual report by the National Bank for 2021, the annual report by the Competition Agency for 2021;
  • September 9 – expedited consideration of the Bills - the Speaker declared.

The Bureau assigned the leading Committees for the new legal initiatives, including the package on Common Courts, which concerns the fulfillment of one of 12 recommendations. “The package covers the fulfillment of one of 12 recommendations envisaging the proactive reflection of the ECHR practice in the adoption of the Court orders and in a justice procedure in general”, - the Speaker elucidated.


The agenda also includes: Draft Code of Administrative Offenses; Bill on Legal Aid; Draft Rules of Procedure; Draft Constitution; Bill on General Education; and the package on the accession to SEPA. “The SEPA package is quite immense, though all three packages shall be adopted within a week since we are bound to certain terms for the submission of the application to the EU in this regard. I appeal to you to get active in this process”, - the Speaker addressed MPs and thanked the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili and the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, Irakli Kovzanadze, as well as the Government for their devoted activity.


The Bureau members congratulated the Georgian Waterpolo Team on their progress to the quarter-final of the European Championship.


“Being amongst 8 European teams means that our water polo team is amongst the top 8 of the world; I also would like to congratulate our basketball team on their progress to the quarter-final”, - the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze stated.


The Speaker dwelt on the recent fires in the country and thanked the firefighters, rescuers, military personnel, national guard and the reserve soldiers for their sacrificed fight against the fires.


“We have been encountering fires in various regions of Georgia and today, new fire hearths have been found in Tbilisi as well. I would like to take this opportunity and thank our fire-fighters, rescuers, military personnel, national guard and the reserve soldiers for their fight against the fire, we are grateful for their devotion in protecting our nature and population from this threat”, - the Speaker added.


The first plenary session of the autumn session 2022 starts tomorrow, at 12h00.
