
The Parliament discussed with the III reading and approved with 78 votes the Draft Law on Incompatibility of Interests and Corruption in Public Institution; the package composed of 27 Bills is submitted for expedited consideration.
According to the First Deputy Chair of the Legal Committee, David Matikashvili, the Law is to be re-titled into the Law on Countering Corruption. As he elucidated, the Draft establishes the LEPL Anti-Corruption Bureau as an independent entity; its independence shall be guaranteed by the state by providing the Bureau with due conditions for its operation.
The Bureau shall be accountable to the Parliament and the Inter-Agency Anti-Corruption Council.
The key task of the Bureau shall imply the facilitation of countering corruption and supervision of the implementation of the general policy anti-corruption documents and national anti-corruption strategy, as well as coordination of the respective bodies, organizations and officials.
