The Parliament of Georgia adopted, at III reading, the draft law on Grants with 81 votes in favor.
The main substance of the amendments was presented to Members of Parliament by the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze.
According to the draft law, the Georgia-registered entrepreneurial entity JSC Georgian Energy Development Fund will be designated as a grant-giving entity.
At the same time, the Fund is added to the list of grant recipient entities, and it is established that funds transferred to it for the implementation of its statutory objectives may be regarded as grants.
The draft law also defines the procedure for obtaining consent for the issuance of a grant and for submitting the relevant documentation in cases where the JSC Georgian Energy Development Fund receives a grant.
In 2025, the Georgian Energy Development Fund obtained accreditation from the Green Climate Fund.
The Green Climate Fund is the financial mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and finances projects related to climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in participating countries.
The Fund is regarded as one of Georgia’s largest partner organizations in the fields of climate change mitigation and the development of a green economy.
