The Parliament of Georgia, at its I reading and under an expedited procedure, supported by 74 votes, amendments to the Law on the Special Protection of Green Plantations and State Forests within and Adjacent to the Boundaries of the City of Tbilisi.
The amendments were presented at the plenary session by Maia Bitadze, Chair of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
The draft law clarifies the conditions under which the felling of green plantations is permissible when a construction permit has been issued.
According to the bill, the method for calculating the 25% limitation related to the felling of green plantations during the construction permit issuance process is refined. In particular, it clearly defines the categories of plantations subject to this restriction and excludes those plantations which, due to their biological characteristics and ecological value, should not be included in the calculation.
The draft law also provides for the possibility of the Tbilisi Municipal Council establishing different conditions regarding the felling or transplantation of green plantations for the purpose of completing unfinished construction projects or replacing hazardous residential buildings.
