The Draft Law on Broadcasting adopted for the III reading

The Parliament discussed for the III reading and adopted the Draft Law on Broadcasting with 76 votes.

According to one of the initiators, Rati Ionatamishvili, the amendments regulate the legal relations in connection with the public broadcaster, namely, the changes determine the issues related to the activity of the PB, its financing, composition of the administrative bodies and authorities thereof.

The Draft eliminates the contextual gaps in the Law related to the institutional arrangement and activity of the PB. Pursuant to the amendments, the number of the Board of Trustees of the PB shall be increased from 9 to 11, and the National Communications Commission shall be entitled to nominate 2 candidates to the Board of Trustees to the Parliament.

The authority terms of the Board Chair and Deputy Chair shall be increased from 3 to 6 years. The Draft modifies the qualification requirements for the candidate for the Director General of the PB; and obliges the Broadcaster to direct at least 10% of the assignments from the state budget for the financing of Georgian documentaries, TV series etc. The Draft also changes the amount of assignments for the PB Ajara TV and Radio.
