
The Parliament adopted the decision on the amendments to the Law on Broadcasting with 82 votes.
The amendments concern the financing of the broadcaster, according to which, the established norm of the financing shall be annulled, which envisaged that the financing of the broadcaster shall be at least 0.14% of GDP.
Providing a new financing formula, the financing of the broadcaster as of 2026 shall be calculated based on the data of the employed persons issued by the Statistic Service, namely, the Public Broadcaster shall be financed with the amount received as a result of the multiplication of the number of the natural persons employed in the preceding year with the coefficient of the PB budget financing – 64 GEL but at least the amount of the total assignments of the budget approved in the preceding year. At that, the reduction of the financing for the PB shall be admitted with the consent of the Board of Trustees solely.
The hereof norms shall become effective as of January 1, 2026. The Draft also determines the transitional provisions for 2024-2025, namely, the PB shall be financed for 2024-2025 with the amount of the total assignments endorsed under the State Budget of the preceding year; besides, the Draft modifies the amount of the financing for Ajara TV and Radio.
