The Parliament of Georgia, at III reading and under an expedited procedure, considered and adopted amendments to the Law “On Motor Roads.” The draft law was presented at the plenary sitting by the Deputy Infrastructure Minister, Mzia Giorgobiani.
According to the draft law, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia is granted the authority to transfer, either fully or partially, the responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of roads of international and domestic significance to a private-law legal entity under its management. Under the new arrangements, the state-owned company will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of infrastructure facilities located along the 105-kilometre Gori–Argveta section of the motorway, including 138 bridges and 59 tunnels.
The amendments also establish that failure to comply with certain obligations related to motor roads will entail liability in accordance with the procedures prescribed by the Administrative Offences Code.
