Georgian and Russian relationship and current political events were the theme of the press-conference of the Deputy Chairman of Parliament, Leader of the Socialist Party, Vakhtang Rcheulishvili, who participated in the activities dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Saint-Petersburg.

"This activity has a great importance for warming Georgian and Russian relations. I hope, there will be a great advance, as Russia has clearly expressed its aspiration for the west,” – stated Vakhtang Rcheulishvili and remarked, that as the meeting of the leaders of different countries of the world was anniversary, working meetings were not held and naturally, there was not discussed Abkhazian issue either.

In his opinion, the widely spread information in Georgia, that the terms to Russian Peace Corps were prolonged for ten years, is provocation and its authors needed it to tone down impression and results of the meeting of world leaders. "One unique chance to resolve our problem is, entering of Russia in western world.  In other case, correction of the relations between Georgia and Russia will have no future, as Georgia will never refuse its western orientation,” – remarked he.

With regard to the current political events Vakhatng Rcheulishvili stated, that they would try their best to conduct objective elections of the Parliament. "Georgia has strength to avoid destabilization, as it is not any more the weak country as it was 10 years ago,” – stated the Leader of Socialists and called population not to get involved in provocation, to which the oppositional parties are calling them.
