MP Rati Ionatamishvili held a meeting with the representatives of the Network of Women with Disabilities.
The Network unifies the women with disabilities countrywide and advocates for the challenges the disabled women encounter in terms of their rights and gender. At the meeting, the parties overviewed the needs and rights of the women and girls with disabilities, problems and impediments they face on daily basis, and discussed the solutions.
“The communication is particularly important for us as it allows us to hear them and be actively engaged in this process. Today, we discussed the certain needs of women with disabilities, the protection of their rights, guarantees for their rights and the establishment of the respective platform. I believe that the initiatives they echoed are very important. The acutest problem they face is that we, the decision-makers, when discussing the rights of women with disabilities shall attach particular importance to their rights. When we speak of the economic strengthening of women, we shall not forget the needs of disabled women and girls. The necessity of the accessibility to the healthcare services is paramount indeed but it is not enough to cover their various needs and challenges, which include the problems in terms of their economic strengthening, employment, participation in sports etc.”, - R. Ionatamishvili stated.
