Rati Ionatamishvili and Tornike Phagava Participated in the Review of Georgia’s 2025 National Human Rights Report within the 4th Cycle of the UN Universal Periodic Review

The Chair of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee, Rati Ionatamishvili, and Committee member Tornike Phagava participated in Geneva in the consideration of Georgia’s 2025 National Report on the State of Human Rights Protection, within the framework of the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

In his address, Rati Ionatamishvili briefed Council members on the legislative reforms implemented over the past five years in the field of human rights protection and emphasized that Georgia once again reaffirms its firm commitment to human rights, based on constitutional guarantees.

Special attention was paid to the importance of the legislative framework related to transparency, family values, and the protection of minors.

According to Rati Ionatamishvili, the progress achieved encompasses good governance, protection of property rights, economic stability, judicial independence, media pluralism, the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities, as well as inclusive political representation.

This progress is reflected in leading international indices and in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

The Committee Chair also highlighted the importance of strong and effective parliamentary oversight in ensuring the rule of law. Within the framework of the UN Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process, under which Member States submit national reports on the human rights situation every five years, representatives of Georgia’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches participated this year.
