Budget and Finance Committee, along with the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee Rejecting Candidates for National Bank’s Board Nominated by President of Georgia

The Budget and Finance Committee, along with the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, did not lend their support to the nomination of Nana Keinishvili and Teimuraz Khomeriki as members of the National Bank Board, as put forth by the President.

The committees' agenda included the consideration of the candidacies of Nana Keinishvili and Teimuraz Khomeriki, who had been nominated by the President for the position of Board members at the National Bank of Georgia. However, the candidates were notably absent from the committee meeting.

In light of recent events concerning the National Bank over the past two days, the President of Georgia has chosen not to submit any further nominations, as conveyed by the President's Parliamentary Secretary, Giorgi Mskhiladze.

"In light of recent developments concerning the National Bank, the President has taken the stance that given the current uncertainty regarding whether the National Bank is acting in the best interests of the Georgian people or specific individuals, she has chosen not to nominate any candidates for membership on the Board of the National Bank. Consequently, the candidates have not been in attendance at committee meetings. Under these circumstances, and until there is clarity regarding the situation surrounding the National Bank, the decree issued by the Acting President of the National Bank on September 19, 2023, will remain in effect. Until such clarity is achieved, the presentation of candidates is deemed inadvisable", - the parliamentary secretary of the President stated.

As stated by the Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, Paata Kvizhinadze, in accordance with the law, the committee deems it appropriate to conduct a vote on the candidates during the plenary session of the Parliament without prior discussion and hearing. The committee's unfavorable recommendation will be presented to the Parliament during the plenary session.
