
The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to OSCE PA, Nikoloz Samkharadze introduced the activity report for 2022 and stated that the Delegation was very active in all three dimensions of the Assembly, especially in the defense and security, human rights, and democracy.
The greatest part of the agenda for 2022 was dedicated to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. As the reporter noted, the Delegation has been highlighting at every event the challenges on the occupied territories of Georgia and the security milieu in the region. N. Samkharadze initiated the introduction of the record to the Resolution of the OSCE PA Political Affairs and Security Committee on Birmingham Declaration by which, the Assembly calls on Russia to de-occupy the Georgian regions – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, and get constructively engaged in the Geneva Talks. As reported, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee was elected as the Chair of the OSCE PA Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Committee.
The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to PACE, Irakli Chikovani introduced the report on activity for 2022 informing MPs that a significant part of the agenda for 2022 was dedicated to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that the Georgian Delegation along with other countries supports the documents condemning the actions of the Russian Federation. “The Georgian Delegation – the Majority and the Opposition MPs – unequivocally supported these documents and clearly expressed our position upon voting”, - he stated and added that at the second panel of the Assembly in 2022, the PACE approved the Resolution on Commitments assigned by Georgia, which is of utmost importance for our country; the document developed by the Monitoring Committee provides the uninterrupted and achieved significant progress of Georgia in all priority directions of the Council of Europe.
“2022 was quite a problematic year for international security. The Russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine has totally changed the international agenda, which naturally was reflected on NATO PA activity”, - the Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to NATO PA, Irakli Beraia stated in his report for 2022; according to him, the Delegation was actively engaged in the activity of the Assembly.
As he elucidated, a significant part of the reports and resolutions endorsed at the sessions was dedicated to Georgia. Based on the initiatives and amendments of the Georgian Delegation, the Georgia-supportive records in the documents have been further enhanced.
The Delegation held numerous bilateral meetings with the high officials of the NATO member and partner states, as well as NATO PA officials. 9 meetings were held during the spring session of the Assembly included and 7 meetings in the autumn/annual session.
The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to GUAM PA, Giorgi Khelashvili reported on their activity and stated that the Delegation participated in online meetings of 4 Committees, as well as the online annual session, the meeting of the Baltic Council in Riga and the GUAM PA session, where the agenda was directed to the situation in Ukraine.
The GUAM PA Committees were considering humanitarian aid to Ukraine, distributive legal mechanisms and social protection of the Ukrainian population, including IDPs during the martial law.
The Georgian Delegation kept underlining the unconditional support to Ukraine, informing the Assembly members about the humanitarian aid provided by Georgia. In his speech at the 15th GUAM PA session, G. Khelashvili highlighted the intact and unwavering support of Georgia to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and dwelt on the importance of cooperation between the GUAM countries in the energy security of Ukraine and Europe; he informed the delegates about the situation on the Georgian occupied territories.
