
The Chairs and members of the Foreign Relations Committees of the Parliaments of Turkey and Azerbaijan visit Georgia invited by the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze.
The first day of the visit was dedicated to the Annual Trilateral meeting.
The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze opened the meeting and overviewed the key issues, such are the enhancement of the regional cooperation for peace and security in the South Caucasus, the significance of the wider Black Sea region under the new geopolitical order, Russian aggression against Ukraine and its consequences on the global and regional levels, new advantages for the South Caucasus and the effective application of the trilateral legislative format.
He emphasized the importance of de-occupation and thanked his Turkish and Azerbaijan counterparts for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
“It’s of utmost importance for us to maintain the issue of the occupation of two regions of Georgia by Russia in the international agenda and against this background, I would like to thank your Governments and Parliaments for supporting the Resolutions and political declarations submitted by Georgia in various international and regional organizations and forums”, - he stated and dwelt on the transit function of the region, the importance of the transit corridors, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Southern gas corridor, middle corridor and the Black Sea submarine cabling project.
The meeting in the hereof format is being convened on the annual basis as a parliamentary platform for the three countries, allowing them to discuss the processes in the region, trilateral strategic partnership and further cooperation ways.
The meeting was attended by the Frist Deputy Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Giorgi Khelashvili, Deputy Chair David Zilpimiani and the Committee members Mariam Lashkhi and Alexander Motserelia.
