The Statement by MPs Sozar Subari, Dimitri Khundadze and Mikheil Kavelashvili

Statement 04 Jul 2022

As you may know, the Political Board of the “Georgian Dream” developed on Friday and submitted to society a certain plan for the fulfillment of 12 commitments issued by the EU. The plan provides detailed and comprehensive information on the steps to be taken for the implementation of the reforms, assigned subjects and the respective terms.

Despite that the plan eliminated all the grounds for the speculations that the Government perceives the candidacy in a frigid manner and does not intend to take any effective steps, the plan met our very expectations: from the very first moment of the submission of the plan, the opposition and its NGOs started the flow of the unsubstantiated allegations that the plan is unacceptable for them and they have no intention of participation therein. It reveals the fact that they are not at all interested in the candidacy, for specifically, they are interested only to the extent to impede granting candidacy to Georgia even in December.

This is the way they envision their chance to, using their term, “tear” the country and lead Georgia to war and disorders. Besides, the very first response of the radical opposition to the plan clarifies that regardless of the measures and steps the Government undertakes, regardless of all the changes in line with the European standards, all its deeds and achievements will never be valued; on the contrary, every commitment will be used as a ground to lead the country to the revolt.

In this regard, every EU-issued commitment, from the perspective of the radical opposition, shall be considered as a 1/12 part of their revolutionary scenario. The National Movement and its internal and external partners will try to in a consistent manner use these commitments for the preparation of the society for the revolution as of December.

Despite our grounded skepticism, we believe that the Government shall do all in its power to fulfill the plan. We are sure that the decision to be made in December has already been made and Georgia is not going to receive the candidacy.

However, the Government carries the responsibility to demonstrate that EU integration is an intact priority and all measures are undertaken for the achievement thereof. The Government widely backed by the society shall strive to deprive the impartial assessors of the reasons to refuse candidacy to Georgia.

And finally, we would like to underline that the radical opposition possesses no resources for the revolution and will not possess in December either; they will not succeed in leading the country to war and chaos. We believe we will also contribute to impeding the opposition from realizing their revolutionary scenario.
