Parliament Elected Two Members of the Public Broadcaster's Board of Trustees

The Parliament of Georgia voted on the candidates nominated for the vacant positions on the Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

According to the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, several candidates were identified through an open competition and subsequently presented by the relevant commission to both the parliamentary majority and the opposition.

Among the nominated candidates, the political group “People’s Power” put forward one candidate, the “For Georgia” parliamentary faction nominated three candidates, and the “Georgian Dream” faction nominated one candidate.

As a result of the vote, Parliament elected David Kartvelishvili, the candidate nominated by the political group “People’s Power”, as a trustee with 83 votes, and Grigol Murghulia, the candidate nominated by the “Georgian Dream” faction, as a trustee with 82 votes in favor and 4 against.

The candidates nominated by the “For Georgia” faction — Tea Gegenava, Eliso Gabadadze, and Teimuraz Kekelidze — did not receive enough votes to be elected as trustees.

As a result, Parliament filled two of the three vacant positions on the Board of Trustees. In accordance with the legislation, the “For Georgia” faction will have the opportunity to nominate another candidate for the remaining vacant seat.
