Meeting of Salome Samadashvili and Khatia Dekanoidze with Member of the German Bundestag

MPs Salome Samadashvili and Khatia Dekanoidze met with a member of the German Bundestag, Robin Wagener.

The main issues at the meeting were related to the integration of Georgia into the European Union and the implementation of the 12 recommendations of the European Union.

The parties talked about the importance of granting EU candidate status to Georgia.

"We discussed the significant challenge posed by pro-Russian and anti-Western propaganda in Georgia, which hinders the attainment of candidate status. Our partners acknowledge the importance of the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections, as they represent a crucial choice between Western integration and alignment with Russia. We explored strategies to mitigate polarization and addressed concerns regarding Nika Gvaramia's imprisonment and Mikheil Saakashvili's health condition. Additionally, there were inquiries about the opposition's plans and our vision for shaping the political landscape in order to minimize polarization", - Khatia Dekanoidze stated.

During the meeting, Germany's special role in the process of promoting Georgia's integration into the European Union was noted.

"The position of Germany, particularly the Bundestag, holds great significance for Georgia's attainment of candidate status. They are keen to understand the progress made in fulfilling the EU requirements. It is well recognized that without meeting the 12-point requirements, the path to obtaining candidate status will be challenging", - Salome Samadashvili stated.
