Shalva Papuashvili Met with the Vice Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Vice Speaker of the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic, Ioannis Plakiotakis.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the millennia-old historical and cultural ties between Georgia and the Hellenic Republic.

Shalva Papuashvili expressed gratitude for the support extended to the Georgian diaspora residing in Greece. The Vice Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament noted that ethnic Greeks in Georgia constitute an integral part of the local society.

The parties expressed their readiness to deepen inter-parliamentary relations. They also highlighted the importance of better utilizing the potential for cooperation in the fields of trade and economy.

The sides discussed prospects for cooperation within international inter-parliamentary organizations.

The meeting also touched upon Georgia–European Union relations.

The meeting took place in Istanbul, Turkey, within the framework of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The delegation, led by the Speaker, includes the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze.
