The Speaker of the Parliament, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, the Environmental Protection and Agriculture Minister, David Songulashvili, and Members of Parliament attended the opening of the Red Deer Nursery in the Algeti National Park, organized with the initiative of the National Agency of Wildlife at the Environmental Protection and Agriculture Ministry within the National Plan on Restoration of Species.
“For the first time during the period of our independence, we have initiated a comprehensive program to restore the Red Deer population in the Algeti National Park. This program aims to address the concerns raised regarding the endangered species listed on the Red List.
The Environmental Protection and Agriculture Ministry has expressed its intention to replicate this program in other National Parks across Georgia as part of the ongoing National Plan on Restoration of Endangered Species.
It is crucial to preserve our natural environment and restore the damaged ecosystems”, - the Speaker noted.
Seven Red Deer, originating from the Tbilisi Zoo, were released into the protected forest area of the Algeti National Park. The initial phase of the program aims to augment this population to 15.
The Red Deer Nursery, situated within the Algeti National Park, the largest in the Caucasus, spans an area of 60 hectares. The nursery is equipped with modern monitoring systems.
