The President of the Children's and School Sport National Federation of Georgia, Konstantine Amirejibi, spoke about the programs implemented by the Federation at the meeting of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee.
He claims that the Federation was founded in 2006 and that its objectives include the growth of youth and school sports, the promotion of sports and a healthy lifestyle in the minds of students and young people and the encouragement of the identification of gifted teens for sports federations.
"The Children's and School Sport National Federation of Georgia runs its operations in accordance with established systematic programs, and its program partners include the National Olympic Committee, sports federations, the Ministries of Culture, Sports and Youth, Education and Science, and Defense as well as the Ministries of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republics of Abkhazia and Adjara", - Konstantine Amirejibi stated.
According to him, the Federation, together with its partner agencies, implements systematic programs focused on the development of children's and school sports. The rapporteur also spoke about the funding directions of the Federation and touched upon issues of cooperation with various international donor organizations.
The Federation President gave the Committee members information about particular sports programs and discussed the outcomes of the programs in question. Speaking about the difficulties facing the growth of school sports, Konstantine Amirejibi drew attention to the dearth of sports facilities in educational institutions, the meager financial support provided by municipalities for school sports initiatives, the lack of enthusiasm among physical education teachers, and the general lack of funding for such initiatives.
The Committee members reviewed potential solutions and shared their thoughts on the information provided by the Federation. In order to address the demands of the Federation, the Committee's Chairman, Irakli Medzmariashvili, took the initiative to call a joint extended session, which, in his opinion, will produce noticeable results.
"We propose that the Education and Science, Healthcare and Social Issues, Sports and Youth Issues Committees, along with the relevant Ministries, have a combined session to discuss the issues we have heard about. Together with experts, the Committee and the Children's and School Sport National Federation of Georgia will prepare this matter so that we may reach a resolution at the joint extended session that will result in the creation of new legislation or the passage of any necessary executive orders", - Irakli Medzmariashvili stated.
Taking into account the opinions expressed at the meeting, the Committee approved the report.
