The Chair of the Education and Science Committee, Giorgi Amilakhvari and the First Deputy, Tamar Taliashvili held a meeting with UNICEF Resident Representative, Ghassan Khalil and the education specialist, Ana Janelidze to discuss the ongoing and scheduled reforms in the educational sphere, the thematic inquiries held by the Committee and the development of the Education Code.

“Ghassan Khalil welcomed the initiative of our Committee on the Code. We enjoy productive cooperation with UNICEF in general education and pre-school education directions and today, we planned a new stage of our cooperation with UNICEF and we believe this process to be productive”, - T. Taliashvili noted.

The international support of an organization like UNICEF is very important for Georgia at the development stage. The parties stressed the protection of the rights of children, the rights of children for studying in universities, and the training courses held in schools in Georgia. “Professor Khalil is a good friend and support of Georgia and one of the world leaders in rights of the children and education”, - she added.

As Mr. Khalil stated, the meeting was very interesting. “We discussed the education reform and the role of the Parliament in adoption and realization of the laws corresponding to high standards, namely, the hereof legislation shall be realized by the protection of the best interests of the children and for their welfare. We will keep the meetings and share our positions about the activities within our partnership”, - he stated.
