Tamar Taliashvili, in the capacity of the Chair of the PACE Sub-Committee on Media and Information Society, held a meeting with the President of the Italian Data Protection Authority, Pasquale Stanzione in Rome.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the challenges to personal data protection in the process of the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and the importance of the principles of the protection of the freedom of expression and privacy in the activity of the Parliamentary Assembly. The parties agreed on further cooperation.
“At present, Italy presides over the Council of Europe and it is to be underlined that Italy has taken significant steps in the direction of personal data protection. Their experience is of utmost interest for the CoE member states and for Georgia as well. Protection of privacy and personal data is getting more and more complicated against the background of technological development. We encounter acute legal and ethical dilemmas, including the challenge to democracy. These issues are of key importance for the PACE and we value the role and engagement of Italy. It is as well noteworthy that we have outlined the perspective for exchange of experience and achievements in regards with Georgia”, - T. Taliashvili stated.
