Meeting of the Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia and the Committee members with the NATO PA Delegation members

The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to NATO PA, Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia and the Committee members held a meeting with the Delegation of the NATO PA Defense and Security Committee, and the Sub-Committee on Future Security and Defense Capabilities to discuss the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia, foreign policy directions and the security challenges.

“Members of the Defense and Security Committee and the members of the Parliamentary Delegation to NATO PA held a very productive meeting with the NATO PA Delegation. It’s vital that the NATO PA Delegation visits Georgia simultaneously with the Madrid Summit, which reaffirms the special value of Georgia in the NATO agenda. At the meeting, we touched upon the threats and challenges and overviewed the security milieu and foreign priorities of the country. The importance of acceleration of the NATO accession of Georgia was underlined. As noted, Georgia remains loyal to the North Atlantic Treaty principles and fully shares the values that serve the basis in the Euro-Atlantic area. We highlighted the drastically aggravated security environment, which becomes particularly alarming against the background of the full-scale military aggression of Russia against Ukraine; all these facts demonstrate that the only way to ensure peace and stability lies through the enlargement of NATO in the region and extension of its representation”, - I. Beraia stated.

The meeting was attended by MPs – Alexander Tabatadze, Vladimir Chachibaia, Teona Akubardia, Giorgi Khelashvili, Nino Iobashvili, Alexander Elisashvili, Devi Chankotadze and Hermann Szabo.
