The Draft Law on Intelligence Service deliberated by the Defense and Security Committee

The Defense and Security Committee deliberated on the Draft law on Intelligence Service, introduced by the First Deputy Chair of the Committee, Tengiz Sharmanashvili for the II reading along with the deriving Bills.

According to him, the contextual and technical amendments have been introduced to the legal package after the I reading, namely, the Agency has been retitled from the National Intelligence Agency into the Intelligence Agency subordinated to the State Security Service.

As per the reporter, the amendments also pertain to the effective term of the Law, modifying it to August 1, 2025.

According to Alexander Tabatadze, the Chair of the Committee, the Committee has held intensive consultations with the Security Service upon the development of the Draft Law and all the remarks and proposals are reflected.

The Committee discussed the Draft Defense Code for the II reading, introduced by the Deputy Defense Minister, Grigol Giorgadze, along with the novelties to the document.

The Committee approved the Draft Laws and got cognizant of the annual report of the State Budget 2024 enforcement introduced by the First Deputy Finance Minister, Giorgi Kakauridze.

“The Defense Ministry has consumed the allocated assets in 2024 by 100,1%, the Interior Ministry - by 100,3%, the State Security Service - 99,8%, and the Intelligence Service- 100%. It is noteworthy that the state agencies fully utilized the state budget allocations in 2024, fulfilling the planned and scheduled activities”, - the reporter noted.

The Committee took note of the report.
