The Deputy Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Koba Kobaladze met with the Defense and Security Committee members of the Youth Parliament to discuss the national security priorities and democratic principles, security policy coordination challenges, threats from Russia and emphasized de-occupation and restoration of territorial integrity, role of public diplomacy, peaceful resolution of conflict.
The students asked about measures for non-recognition policy and the activity of the Committee in planning state security policy.
K. Kobaladze noted that Georgia encounters instability and terrorism challenges requiring complex approach and informed and expedient decisions in security policy coordination and planning.
“In enhancement of territorial integrity and sovereignty, we need to intensify public diplomacy. The bilateral talks solely cannot improve the situation of the residents of the occupied regions and adjacent villages. Our priority is to apply the total defense regime achievable by mutual agreement between the military and civil components. We cannot address these challenges without the complex approaches. Every citizen shall realize own duty to the state. De-occupation depends on engagement of the state and society sectors. Only in this case we can speak about total defense and defense capacity of the country”.
