
The Parliament hosted the event dedicated to the 55th jubilee of Georgian politician, Speaker of the Parliament in 1995-2001 and former Prime Minister, Zurab Zhvania with the initiative of Zurab Zhvania School of Public Administration.
The Director of the School, Kevevan Makharashvili addressed the attendees and spoke about merits of Z. Zhvania in establishment of the School. “It is the greatest honor and responsibility for the School to be named after Zurab Zhvania as he was the politician the visions of which defined democratic development of Georgia. He initiated foundation of Georgian Parliamentarism and the way to EU integration. He was the creator of the political weather in the country and was the leader of many important processes”.
The Speaker, H.E. Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the attendees: “Zurab Zhvania assumed the highest political responsibility when our statehood and Georgian Parliamentarism was in the process of formation and when our foreign political course was not clearly outlined. Zurab Zhvania was the person who played the particular role in these processes. The current statehood and Parliamentarism was achieved with his merits. The positions are developed and foreign and cultural directions are enhanced”.
Foreign political course of Georgia related to the civilizational choice of our country has been formed during Z. Zhvania’s activity. “We have a clearly outlined foreign political course related to our civilizational choice. Our task is EU integration and it is the course established during the activity of Zurab Zhvania. His role is invaluable”.
The son of Zurab Zhvania, Busa Zhvania also addressed the attendees and thanked the School and the Speaker for organization of the event. “I am honored to be here in the Parliament, to formation and development of which Zurab Zhvania dedicated his significant part of life. It is the place where the state development vision was formulated which now serves as the axis for the political spectrum and the society despite the acute political processes. He resumed this vision in one sentence: “I am Georgia and therefore, I am European”.
The event was accomplished with the awarding ceremony of the essay contest by the School “Privilege of our Generation” and the presentation of the short film.
