Let me, prior to upcoming Warsaw Summit, against the background of the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence of Georgia, clearly reiterate and state about the intact course, EU and NATO integration of our country. The course is not appurtenant to any of the political parties but is the intact will of our country, choice without alternative. This course complies with our values and identity and hence, all objections are groundless bearing no perspective.
The official representatives of NATO has numerously reiterated on the high level that Georgia deserves membership of NATO inasmuch as it meets the standards of the political block and at that, Georgia is the recognized leader of EaP program. That’s why, our irreversible aspiration to EU in capacity of visa free regime will soon gain additional impetus. At that, Georgia has pragmatic and realist incumbent Government. Against the grave situation in the modern world, taking the current political realities into account, Georgian Government does not cherish unreal expectations in the society.
As I strongly believe, the process itself on NATO and EU approximation, is as beneficial for our country as the ultimate goal – accession to the hereof organizations. This process allows Georgia of progress, reforming and modernization with assistance of American and European reliable partners, giving the opportunity to undertake successful political and economic reforms, to build stable society on the basis of the institutional democracy, and along independent judicial agencies, free media, protection of human rights, true political pluralism and developed civil society, all these factors converts Georgia into a special country, which is the pre-condition for success on the path to Warsaw Summit.
Since 2012, Georgian Government has many times proved to be undertaker of an open, transparent policy, based on Western values and ideals. It is recognized by Georgian society and beyond. Yes, we are not ideal yet but we work to achieve this goal. Conversations about possibilities that Georgia can deviate from this court, are irrelevant and the discussions on this issue are nothing but the clear example of expression of free opinion in our society. The foreign political vector of Georgia shall not become the subject of speculations within the country as can be beneficial for the opponents, facilitating to creation of different illusions.
I would like to underline that historical choice of Georgia is not directed against anyone. This is particularly important for Russia to understand and realize. We are for equal partnership but we reserve our sovereign right to choose development vector for Georgia. We are committed for friendly and neighborhood relations but if these relations do not prejudice our national interests. Our path is not easy and we well realize it.
During the last 25 years, Georgia has been through the tests more than any of the countries encountered during centuries. I am sure that our partners and allies deliver clear words of support for us at upcoming NATO Summit, to be held several months prior to fair and open Parliamentary Elections.
I deeply believe that the decisions made at NATO Summit and implementation thereof will convert our country into stronger, more democratic, stable and functional – truly European country.
