The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee endorsed the Draft Defense Code

Media and Society 24 Nov 2023
The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee endorsed the Draft Defense Code

The Committee discussed the Draft Defense Code, introduced by the Deputy Defense Minister, Grigol Giorgadze.

According to him, the Draft allows a person to enjoy the postponement right if he/she is a student with the active status of a higher educational program in Georgia; the right shall remain valid at all grades of the academic process. The hereof right shall as well be granted to the students studying at higher educational programs abroad, not provided in a remote mode. A person that will be incapable to enjoy the right of postponement of the conscription due to a remote study, will be allowed to serve in an acceptable form.

The Draft entitles persons to appeal the decision on the conscription, or any decision made on the basis of the Defense Code related to the conscription, within the term of 15 calendar days upon the delivery; however, the appeal shall not terminate the validity of the decision.

“The Draft ensures timely enforcement of the decisions related to the defense and security”, - the reporter noted. The Committee endorsed the Draft.
