“We need to ensure the compliance of the Organic Law with the Constitution and in this view, we introduce the change to the Organic Law on the National Bank, guaranteeing the full access of MPs to any information related to the activity of the National Bank. It will allow us to discuss the problems related to the Bank”, - the member of the Political Group “Girchi”, Alexander Rakviashvili stated at the briefing introducing the new legal initiative on the National Bank.

The Draft entitles MP, based on his/her inquiry, to receive any confidential information in order established under the Rules of Procedure.

The Draft will reduce the risks of the abuse of authority by the National Bank.

“The Parliament enjoys the power and duty granted under the Constitution to ensure the oversight on the activity of the National Bank, though it is impossible even theoretically as the National Bank has classified the whole range of information concerning its activity. It makes oversight impossible. We need to ensure the compliance of the Organic Law with the Constitution and in this view, we introduce the change to the Organic Law on the National Bank, guaranteeing the full access of MPs to any information related to the activity of the National Bank without any risks to the financial system or any other problems but allows us to see to the processes in the National Bank, discuss the problems and ensure oversight”, - the reporter added.
