“It is an immense honor for me to regularly attend this ceremony for years. I congratulate you on a new academic year and the commencement of your student’s path. The government significantly invests in education since the successful future of the country is constituted by the citizens equipped with certain knowledge! I am extremely proud to have been a student of this University – this is your day and I wish you success! I am extremely proud to once be a student of this University”, - Vice-Speaker, Archil Talakvadze stated in his speech at the opening ceremony of the new academic year 2023-2024 in Tbilisi State Medical University.

He accentuated the importance of SMU, its traditions and the progress achieved, and congratulated the students on their enrollment.

“You embark on the healthcare path in a very complicated period, when the world and the processes are extremely accelerated, and people more widely start using technologies, artificial intelligence and scientific progress, when the patients are far more informed. This is the period when the part of knowledge and information decreases in value minute over minute but new knowledge and information acquire immense importance. I am glad that the Medical university follows this progress and keeps improving. The Rector, administration and academic personnel spare no effort to make the University successful. Your choice to serve for the people, and safeguard their health and life, carries monumental responsibility and thus, I wish you good luck”.

He recalled the merit of the doctors who sacrificed their lives in the fight for territorial integrity.

“The Medical University remembers not only happy and bright days but dark moments as well. I would like to commemorate the doctors who sacrificed their lives for their homeland and its territorial integrity. They serve as a model of heroism for our country and society”.

MP Lado Kakhadze also addressed the students.

 “Try, to ensure your actions are in direct harmony with the national interests. Each step you take crowned with success will mean respect to your past and serve as an incentive for the education of a new generation by you. Today, I congratulate everyone who, on behalf of the government, create all the conditions in the education system to make it of priority level and I also would like to thank our partners, who acknowledge our country as a driver of this potential to the area where all dignified sovereign, independent and educated societies and countries are assembled”, - he stated.

The Rector of the SMU, Zurab Vadachkoria also delivered his speech.

The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, the professors from various leading universities worldwide, the academic circles and the students.
