Beka Natsvlishvili: I urge the Government to make the social assistance universal and stretch it to every unemployed

Beka Natsvlishvili: I urge the Government to make the social assistance universal and stretch it to every unemployed

"A few months ago, I appealed a letter to the representatives of the US Congress and Senate regarding the ongoing processes around the company Frontera. The purpose of the letter was not only the non-fulfillment of commitments by the American company towards the state, but also the attitude demonstrated by the company towards its employees and staff by keeping them unpaid for 11 months”, - Beka Natsvlishvili stated at today’s briefing.

As he added, the Government, as an authorized entity, had the opportunity to intervene into the management of the company a few months earlier and thus restore these people to their jobs and pay their salaries.

"The Government has not taken advantage of this opportunity. In addition, the dispute between the Frontera and the state ended with the victory of the state in international arbitration. Yet these people have been compensated. They have not been paid for 16 months”, - Beka Natsvlishvili noted.

As the MP also stated, the families of these people still stay with relatives as they find it difficult to pay utility bills and provide basic necessities for their families.

"I urge the Government to fulfill its commitment and give these people at least the compensation that they, as being unemployed, deserve and own. The example of Frontera employees clearly shows how unfair and weak the new social aid system proposed by the Government is. The Government left unaided those who had lost their jobs right before the outbreak of the pandemic”, - B. Natsvlishvili added.

Being unemployed, those people, as reported by B. Natsvlishvili, don’t even receive the social assistance and thus are included in a larger group of people left unaided surrendering the international transactions from their relatives abroad, the latter being also sporadic amid the virus outbreak.

"This initiative of the Government, which of course was necessary, left many without a subsistence minimum.

The Government will never be able to figure out who is self-employed, so too many people will be left without the promised one-time assistance.

I urge the Government to make the social assistance universal, stretching it to every unemployed.

The state has allocated 600 ml to help banks. This is a gift money for them. I appeal to the public - the Government is capable to provide decent assistance to all those who need it, but unfortunately, wrong path has been chosen", - Beka Natsvlishvili concluded.
