David Songhulashvili, Chairman of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, delivered a speech at the plenary session of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) in Madrid.
David Songhulashvili spoke about the energy potential of Georgia and the projects to be implemented in this direction.
"Georgia boasts favorable environmental conditions and significant potential for the execution of energy projects. This potential, combined with its strategic geographical advantage, can play a crucial role in bolstering Europe's energy security. Among the noteworthy projects is the Black Sea underwater electric cable initiative, which aims to establish a connection between Georgia and Europe. This project will facilitate access to the European Union market for renewable sources of electricity, offering a solution to the challenges faced by the energy sector and helping to overcome the ongoing crisis. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to develop the Energy Independence Act within the country. This act will be incorporated into the legislative framework and is designed to boost green energy generation and support the implementation of energy projects in Georgia", - the Chairman of the Committee stated.
In his speech, he emphasized the expectation of a positive decision from the European Council on granting Georgia candidate status.
"Strengthening our ties with the European Union and its member states in the energy sector is of utmost importance, particularly as our nation anticipates a favorable decision from the European Council regarding our candidacy for European Union membership. I am confident that this decision will be a positive one, enabling Georgia to play a vital role in enhancing Europe's energy security”, - David Songhulashvili noted.
