Off-Site Joint sitting of Committees Held at the National Defence Academy

A joint off-site sitting of the Defence and Security Committee and the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee was held at the David Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia.

Members of Parliament were hosted at the National Defence Academy by the Defence Minister, Irakli Chikovani, and the Commander of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili. Senior officials of the Ministry of Defence addressed the MPs. The Defence Minister emphasized the productive cooperation between the defence agency and the legislative body and expressed gratitude to the Members of Parliament.

At the sitting, Deputy Defence Minister Grigol Giorgadze presented information on the military education system, outlining the levels of military education and the academic programs offered.

“Upon completion of four years of study, cadets receive an officer’s rank. They acquire relevant specializations and are subsequently appointed as officers to various units of the Defence Forces. The National Defence Academy ensures all necessary conditions for cadets to obtain high-quality education, promote a healthy lifestyle, and build a successful military career”, - stated Grigol Giorgadze.

Members of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee discussed key aspects of the education reform. Particular attention was given to enhancing international cooperation and exploring future opportunities in research and development.

“The military and defence sector often serves as a significant platform for innovation, where many technological advancements and inventions originate. It is important that research activities at the National Academy are properly organized and that existing intellectual resources are utilized as effectively as possible”, - stated Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee.

Prior to the joint sitting, Members of Parliament toured the National Defence Academy. They had the opportunity to review the cadets’ living and study conditions on site.

“We discussed the planned changes within the framework of the education reform and deliberated on how the educational system of the National Defence Academy can continue to develop and be further systematized. We also inspected the Academy’s infrastructure and training laboratories, where cadets familiarize themselves with innovations and new technologies in accordance with modern standards”, - stated Aleksandre Tabatadze, Chair of the Defence and Security Committee.

The information presented by Deputy Defence Minister Grigol Giorgadze was taken note of at the sitting.
