As part of an official visit to Canada, a delegation of the Parliament of Georgia, led by the Vice Speaker of Parliament and Head of the Georgia–Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, Nino Tsilosani, met with the Chair of the Canadian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, Ahmed Hussen.

The parties reviewed the diplomatic relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation at both the political and economic levels.

Ahmed Hussen reaffirmed Canada’s strong support for the development of bilateral ties and noted that Canada and Georgia are allies that share common values.

“This meeting provided an opportunity for me to reaffirm the strong diplomatic relations between Canada and Georgia. Canada and Georgia share common values in supporting peace and security around the world, particularly in the South Caucasus. I am pleased that this meeting took place and hope that relations between Canada and Georgia will continue to deepen”, - Ahmed Hussen stated.

According to Nino Tsilosani, the Canadian side possesses detailed information regarding both Georgia and the broader geopolitical situation in the region. She noted that Canada’s interest and the active schedule of bilateral meetings create promising conditions for advancing the partnership to a new stage and fostering even more productive cooperation in the future.

“The interest demonstrated by the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, as well as by the Government of Canada, in developing relations with Georgia not only politically but also economically, is perhaps the most important message of this meeting”, - Nino Tsilosani stated following the meeting.

According to the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi, these meetings are already producing tangible results, including strengthened economic diplomacy and prospects for investment in Georgia’s leading sectors.

“Our meetings have already yielded tangible results. There is growing interest in investing in Georgia. During the meeting, we discussed geopolitics and bilateral relations, as well as economic diplomacy and specific projects that could attract Canadian investors and investment funds. These include the IT sector, cybersecurity, education, and offshore energy projects”, - Mariam Lashkhi stated.

The Georgian parliamentary delegation includes Vice Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Diaspora Committee Irakli Zarkua and his Deputy Gocha Enukidze, Chair of the Sports Committee Viktor Sanikidze, and Deputy Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Giorgi Khakhubia.

The meeting was also attended by Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada, Salome Kurasbediani.
