Joint meeting dedicated to the deliberation of the UN Security Council Resolution

The Interim Commission on Territorial Integrity and De-Occupation, and the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee held a joint sitting to discuss the UN Security Council Resolution “Youth, Peace and Security” and its implementation at the national level.

The Head of the Peace and Integration Program of the Center for Cultural Relations “Caucasian House”, Ivane Abramashvili introduced the report “Youth, Peace and Security: Case Study in Georgia and the Proposals for Addressing the Challenges”.

According to him, by adopting the Resolution in 2015, the UN Security Council took a historical step, recognizing the role of the youth in sustainable peace-building process at the local, national and global levels.

The reporter introduced the situation concerning youth engagement in politics and peace-keeping initiatives and offered certain recommendations. The Education Committee took note of the report.

“At the sitting, we discussed the context of the UN Resolution envisaging better engagement of the youth in the political processes, attaching our attention to the education of the youth in peace-keeping aspects. We discussed how sophisticated their knowledge is about the peace-keeping processes and the conflicts in general. It is noteworthy that the Caucasian House introduced quite a significant study. I would like to underline that this is the issue that the opposition and Majority MPs share a uniform platform. Both sides submitted interesting proposals, which will be reflected in the joint resolution and finalized into an action plan for the state structures”, - the Chair of the Interim Commission, the First Vice-Speaker Giorgi Volski stated.

The sitting was also attended by the representatives of the state agencies, Abkhazia AR Government and Supreme Council, international organizations and NGOs.
