Gia Zhorzholiani: we need to open the political area and engage the new vision of the parties to make politics interesting for the society

“Today, we have the window of opportunity to make the Parliamentary Elections 2020 the start of the qualitatively new political phase in the country. Development of the country requires the fundamental change of the current political elite and the political life and conduct, as well as the political style”, - the MP Gia Zhorzholiani stated at the briefing when introducing his legislative initiatives on allocation of media time for the parties during the electoral period.

Today, the political and media agenda includes not the parties representing the interests of the standalone groups but there are two main groups with the financial capital – “Georgian Dream” and “National Movement” and their associated parties, which according to them, create the bipartisan “dictatorship”.

“They do their best to prevent the parties with the new, alternative vision and to ensure the political area as their own theatre for arguing. We need to open the political area and engage the new vision of the parties to make politics interesting for the society and the legislative initiatives by the Social-Democrats aim at provision of every party with the equal opportunities to use the media time for introduction of their positions to their electors and thus, allow the electors to make their choice at their discretion instead of on the basis of the discord between these two parties – to choose the less bad to allow the country without the fear of the worse future”.

The first bill aims at equal conditions for the political parties in the pre-election period in terms of media time, annulment of the paid political advertisements and allocation of equal air time for every registered political party.

“It will facilitate competitive and equal conditions in the elections. Various political parties will have the opportunity to introduce their political vision to the electors. It will provide our citizens with wide options and I mean that the citizens shall have the opportunity to hear every position valuable for them. The Parliament is elected for the term of 4 years and these 4 years will be of the quality as the newly elected Parliament is”.
