Giorgi Amilakhvari and Tamar Taliashvili Introducing UNICEF Representatives to Preschool and School Education Reform Initiatives

Giorgi Amilakhvari, Chair of the Education and Science Committee, and Tamar Taliashvili, First Deputy Chair of the Committee, met with Jessica Katherine Brown, Early Childhood Development Specialist at UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, and Amy Clancy, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Georgia.
The parties discussed legislative initiatives in the realm of education, such as preschool reform and the development of the Education and Science Code.
"The meeting was productive and significant. We have devised a strategy for taking the next effective steps in the direction of our children's education”, - Giorgi Amilakhvari stated.
According to Tamar Taliashvili, the Committee is actively cooperating with the United Nations Children's Fund in the field of pre-school and school education, including at all stages of the ongoing reforms in these areas.
"The subject of today's discussion was pre-school education reform, which includes providing our people with alternative, early, and pre-school programs. We've identified the needs of our community, particularly families in rural areas, such as the Highlands or areas with a variety of obstacles. Our mission is to adapt the preschool education system to the individual needs of our citizens, our children, in order to safeguard their best interests. The Committee has also begun work on the Education Code, which will include pre-school and school education as a major component. It is critical to include UNDP specialists in the legislative initiative process so that our legislative initiatives can be shared and based on the best experience of other nations”, - Tamar Taliashvili stated.
As Amy Clancy noted, UNICEF is pleased that the Georgian Parliament will support the conceptualization and development of the Education and Science Code.
"We are glad to collaborate with the Georgian Parliament and will continue to do so in order to provide high-quality education to all children, particularly those under the age of six. This collaboration is critical for the overall improvement of Georgia's educational system. We are grateful for this collaboration and hope to continue working together in the future”, - UNICEF Deputy Representative in Georgia stated.
