Giorgi Khelashvili: We have seen a very clear response from NATO and the US to Russia's claims and demands, which is encouraging for Western structures in general and Georgia

"On the one hand, we have seen a very clear response from NATO and the US to Russia's claims and demands, which is encouraging for Western structures in general, and for Georgia in particular, since it reflects our shared belief that these countries' futures should be their own. The countries' choice of alliances must be their sovereign prerogative; it is inadmissible to split the world, particularly the Euro-Atlantic region; and the existing, agreed-upon standards dating back to the Cold War must be fully upheld“, - Giorgi Khelashvili, First Deputy Chairman of the EU Integration Committee stated at the joint sitting of the Foreign Relations and EU Integration Committees.
According to Giorgi Khelashvili, the attention of the West and Georgia is focused on Ukraine, the crisis and the threat that is gradually increasing and may have a significant impact not only on the future of not only Ukraine but the entire Euro-Atlantic area. According to him, the joint efforts are aimed at deterring aggression, as well as preventing war in Ukraine.
"We appreciate the position of the European Parliament, which you expressed in the form of a resolution on Ukraine. However, at the same time, Russia is simultaneously trying not only to put pressure on Ukraine, but also seems to be seriously demanding a change in the security architecture of Europe. The European Parliament expresses the EU's position on broad policy issues - European security architecture. Where is the European Parliament and, more broadly, the European Union, in terms of security dialogue, and especially how united is the European Union when it comes to Euro-Atlantic security and Russia's policy”, - Giorgi Khelashvili remarked.
He thanked the MEP, Sven Mikser for his visit to Georgia, and the continued support and participation of the European Parliament in Georgia.
