The Head of the Working Group on Revision of the Election Code, Givi Mikanadze held a meeting with the Country Director of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Renata Levovski and the program manager, David Gongadze.

Mr. Mikanadze informed the attendees about the legal initiatives developed by the Working Group in view of the fulfillment of the EU recommendations and introduced the main changes to the Election Code. He dwelt on the meetings of the Group, the draft changes reconciled with the opposition and the consideration of the initiatives within the Committee and plenary sessions.

According to him, the Draft Election Code has been submitted to OSCE/ODIHR and Venice Commission for opinion; G. Mikanadze hoped that after the assessments of the international organizations, the Draft will be adopted with all three readings within the autumn session.

The IFES representatives gave a positive assessment to the Draft Election Code. R. Levovski dwelt on the prospect for the development of other changes beyond the EU recommendations.

To this proposal, G. Mikanadze responded that the Parliament is the institution considering every legal initiative and proposal and if such an initiative is submitted to the Parliament, it will be studied pursuant to the Rules of Procedure
