Guguli Magradze: we need to inculcate the mental knowledge in the education system

Media and Society 31 Jan 2020

The Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Culture Committee, Guguli Magradze, the First Deputy Chair of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee, Lado Kakhadze and the Committee member Mirian Tsiklauri participated in the Scientific-Practical Conference “Mental Security Prospects of Uninterrupted Education” held in the Patriarchate.

The participants heard the reports by the Doctor of Psychology, Tea Gogotishvili on “Role of Dimitri Uznadze Mental Institute in Mental Health”, Doctor of Psychology, Alexander Rusetsky on “Mental Security Prospects of Uninterrupted Education”, the Master of Psychology, Giorgi Donadze on “National Strategy for Prevention of Violence – Suicide Problems”, the Master’s student of Psychology, Ucha Macharashvili on “Challenges of Non-Recognition of the Mental and Informational | Mental War Threats for Georgia”.

The attendees stressed the necessity of uninterrupted education system to ensure public awareness and formation of social attitudes for self-management.

“Today, we encounter the acute mental crisis revealed in the factors that neither on an individual nor on collective level we can manage ourselves. In this case, the individual and the nation in total may show poor self-control and self-management skills and despair and suicidal behavior in an extreme case. Thus, we need to inculcate the mental knowledge in the education system to address the challenges and in this context, the concept by Dimitri Uznadze on mood psychology can play a crucial role. Such skills and knowledge serve as the best preventive mechanisms for suicidal behavior and for formation of an individual into a full-fledged person”, - G. Magradze noted.

The discussion around the report raised various problematic issues clearly revealing the necessity of complex approach to the problem and coordination between the agencies.
