Irakli Medzmariashvili introduced the Activity Report for 2022 of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee

The Chair of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee, Irakli Medzmariashvili introduced the Activity Report for 2022 at the session.

According to him, in 2022, the Committee has undertaken the initiatives as follows: studied the practice on planning, financing, construction and management of the public sports facilities in view of the improvement of the sports infrastructure policy, and issued recommendations based on the detected challenges.

The Committee was actively engaged in the National Disease Control Center initiative, envisaging the development of a national strategy and action plan facilitating the physical activity of the population. For the last decade, the sports impact on the economy has drastically increased worldwide. And in view of a comprehensive assessment of the sports impact on the Georgian economy, the Committee appealed to the NDCC to commence the obtainment of the respective data.

Last year, the Committee set up the Scientific Advisory Council.

“The Committee, in cooperation with UNICEF, started the implementation of the health screening program for monitoring of the youth health state. In 2022, we heard the report on Youth Policy Concept by the Sports Ministry. We set up the Working Group on Youth Policy, unifying 33 organizations. The Group is based on the Open Governance principles and serves for the establishment of the youth interests and needs in public policy”, - he noted.

According to him, within its oversight function, the Committee convened 23 sittings and offsite sittings as well. In 2022, the Committee received 487 statements, which have been re-submitted to the respective agencies for the response.
