Irakli Zarkua: Supporting the diaspora is our duty

Irakli Zarkua: Supporting the diaspora is our duty

“I wish to address our diaspora representatives: we are proud of you. As government officials, we are committed to further strengthening the ties between our diaspora and our homeland. This commitment is enshrined in our Constitution. Supporting the diaspora is our duty", - Irakli Zarkua, Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee stated during his address at the forum marking Diaspora Day.

Irakli Zarkua expressed his gratitude to Georgians living abroad for preserving national traditions and values.

“This year, I had the honour of celebrating our country's Independence Day together with our diaspora in Catalonia. I would like to thank every teacher, choreographer, and member of the clergy who works tirelessly to ensure that young Georgians abroad retain their cultural identity and values", - I. Zarkua noted.

He emphasised that the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues actively cooperates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in developing grants and targeted programmes for the diaspora.

“The state is committed to your well-being and seeks to facilitate your return to a peaceful Georgia. In the current global context, we have worked to maintain peace—and we have succeeded. On this foundation, we must now build economic development and a competitive rule-of-law state. With your help, we will achieve this goal", - I. Zarkua stated.

The Diaspora Day forum was attended by President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, as well as members of the legislative and executive branches, and representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
