The Legal Issues Committee discussed the Draft Law on De-Oligarchization

The Committee discussed the Draft Law on De-Oligarchization as one of the EU recommendations.
According to the Chair, Anri Okhanashvili, the European structures issued a recommendation on the implementation of the Law on De-Oligarchization adopted by Ukraine.
“Hence, the same approach as issued to Ukraine on the commencement of the enforcement of the Law constitutes an objective measure for Georgia. We focus on the fulfillment of the EU recommendation and if they have approved the Ukrainian model, then logically, the same model adopted by Georgia will as well be assessed positively. Thus, we have not invented any new law but referred to the Ukrainian model, translated it and based on the same principles, will soon initiate. It is simple logic – European structures have a positive assessment to the Ukrainian model and we hope that the same model will be positively assessed as well”, - he stated.
The Ukrainian model has already been submitted to Venice Commission. Now, Georgia is interested in the respective opinion issued on the Draft developed by the Parliament.
“Pragmatically, we act strictly within the established term with a tie one task to recognize this paragraph fulfilled. It is noteworthy that similar to the Ukrainian model, the Georgian model has lots of gaps and if there are some rational proposals within the Committee discussions, we will consider them as well”, - he added.
The working group members expressed their positions about the Ukrainian model. The Committee keeps thorough consideration of the Draft.
