The Legal Issues Committee supported the introduction of the position of State Minister of Georgia for Coordination of Law Enforcement Bodies within the Government

The Legal Issues Committee, in the I reading and under an expedited procedure, considered and supported the Draft Law of on the Structure, Powers and Rules of Procedure of the Government of Georgia.

The draft law envisages the introduction of the position of State Minister of Georgia for Coordination of Law Enforcement Bodies within the Government of Georgia. At the same time, the draft law includes a transitional provision, according to which the Government of Georgia shall define the powers and scope of authority of the State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Bodies and, if necessary, ensure that relevant subordinate normative acts are brought into compliance with this law.

As stated by the reporter, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Government, Vakhtang Bachiashvili, the introduction of this position once again emphasizes the Government’s special approach and vision regarding reforms and measures implemented in the field of law and order.

“With the introduction of the new position, effective day-to-day coordination among law enforcement bodies within the executive branch will be ensured by the State Minister. At the same time, the new State Minister will serve as the Government’s representative in relations with the Prosecutor’s Office, the judiciary, and the State Audit Office”, - Mr. Bachiashvili noted.
