The Legal Issues Committee considered, under an expedited procedure, and supported at its II reading the draft Law on the Parliamentary Secretary.

According to the draft law, the position of Deputy Parliamentary Secretary of the Government of Georgia will be abolished.

“Under the current structure, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Government has a deputy, as well as a structural unit within the Government Administration – the Department for Relations with Parliament and the President. Both the department and the deputy are tasked with supporting the Parliamentary Secretary’s activities. When the department is fully staffed and effectively provides support to the Parliamentary Secretary in relations with both Parliament and the President, there is no longer a need for additional resources or an additional staff position. Accordingly, this decision was made, including from the perspective of ensuring efficient use of budgetary resources and expenditures”, - stated Vakhtang Bachiashvili, Parliamentary Secretary of the Government.

A corresponding amendment is also being introduced to the Law on Public Service.
