The Interviewing of the Candidates for Members of the High Council of Justice accomplished

The Legal Issues Committee heard the candidates for Members of the High Council of Justice.


According to the Chair, Anri Okhanashvili, the voting of the candidates will be held after the reconciliation of the positions within the Majority and consultations with the Opposition MPs.


Today, the Committee heard 8 candidates: Nodar Papukashvili, Sulkhan Saladze, Lika Sajaia, Sofio Sokhadze, Giorgi Turazashvili, Kakha Tsikarishvili, Dimitri Khachidze and Teimuraz Jervalidze. Thus, the Committee accomplished the interviewing of the candidates and consideration of the compliance of the documents with the requirements of the legislation.


N. Papukashvili is nominated by the National University of Georgia; S. Saladze – by the Center for Social Justice; L. Sajaia – by the New Vision University; S. Sokhadze – by the Bar Association of Georgia; G. Turazashvili – by the Bar Association; K. Tsikarishvili – by the Georgian-American University; D. Khachidze – by the NPLE Rights Georgia; and T. Jervalidze – by Sokhumi State University, Public Programming Foundation and Bar Association.


As the Speaker stated at the Bureau today, after Shalva Papuashvili addresses the President for the convocation of the extraordinary session, the election of the HCJ members will be included in the plenary agenda.


The Parliament started the competition to elect 5 HCJ members on September 30; the process lasted to October 20.


The interviewing of the candidates started on December 8 – the Parliament heard 32 candidates
