Khatia Tsilosani partaking in the Conference on Countering and Prevention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

The member of the Gender Equality Council, Khatia Tsilosani participated in the online Conference “Partnership between the Municipalities and the State Institutions for the Prevention and Effective Countering of the Violence against Women/Domestic Violence”.

The Conference was attended by the representatives of 17 municipalities of Imereti, Samegrelo, Guria and Ajara regions, including the Mayors, representatives of the City Assemblies, members of the Gender Equality Councils, Gender Advisors, representatives of the Regional Administration and the persons concerned. The agenda included the efficiency of the preventive measures to be undertaken by the municipalities against violence.

The attendees discussed the cooperation and coordination prospects between the municipalities and state agencies, civil society and other parties concerned for the prevention, response and comprehensive improved approaches against violence. The discourse included the identification of the indicators of domestic violence in view of the improvement of the effective response measures.

“Collaboration between the Parliament and the Gender Equality Council resulted in the activities for effective elimination of violence against women, domestic violence and all other types of violence, and the legal amendments allowing the adoption of a better system, which naturally will be further improved. It is paramount that in 2022, we amended the legislation, thus enabling the victims of violence to, prior to gaining the status, enjoy the municipal shelter services, by which, they would escape the repeated acts of violence. It is critical to reduce the number of the victims and to engage all state agencies, including the Ministry, Ombudsman, Parliament, Government and municipalities in the formulation of a uniform position for addressing the domestic and other types of violence”, - Kh. Tsilosani stated.

The attendees agreed on further cooperation and planned joint coordinated activity against violence.
